Reducing our use of energy is increasingly important, especially in our consumption of water and electricity. The heating and lighting of your swimming pool is no exception to this.
A pool uses electricity in several ways: for the filter pump, the chlorination pump and the heating pumps.
Of course, electricity is not the only type of energy a pool uses. You (literally) could not swim in a pool without its most precious resource – water, of course! The average pool holds around 40,000 litres of water, underlining the importance of good cleaning systems and minimising leakage.
How can you then reduce energy use, such as electricity and water – which will save you money and help the planet, too?
- Select the right finish. Darker coloured pool finishes (e.g. the tiles inside your pool) are more efficient at absorbing the sun’s rays. This energy helps to heat the pool – reducing costs.
- Install a pool cover. This helps to prevent heat loss and evaporation of water and it is safer too, especially if you have children or pets.
- Use LED lighting. LED uses up to 80% less energy compared with other forms of light. Over a short period, this amounts to a significant amount of money.
- Service your pool regularly. Pools are great fun; however, they also require regular maintenance. Checking your pool regularly takes time and can identify problems early. A good example is maintaining your pool cleaning system to keep it in good working order.
